View Full Version : Translate Classifieds...
September 4th, 2009, 02:47 PM
I have classified integrated in vbull, and want to translate it to Italian, Chuck, would you please give me some hints? Where is the file with all the words??
September 4th, 2009, 03:09 PM
You can read that discussion but you can translate the strings right in admin if you choose. Add an italian language in admin set your language to italian under the config and then from admin you can view the phrases and translate them

ok Chuck, I've created in the adming the Italian language, but now, when I click on the "edit language strings" it opens a "PhotoPost Classifieds Language Editor - english" with the screen separeted in two.. what is this? it says always "english", how do I open the Ita one? thanks!!!
September 5th, 2009, 09:34 AM
Did you set the language to italian as I stated in config settings before you went to admin language editor?
If so then you should be editing the language italian

I mean, classified would not be worth without you backing up it!! sorry for my poor english!!
Since we are here, one question, does classified use the internal vbulletin pm feature?
September 5th, 2009, 04:25 PM
No we have our own messaging system.
September 6th, 2009, 11:56 AM
ok, translation in progress, nice, so I can translate only the user front end, but problem, here, I changed only the text, but it started showing the html code, why?
September 6th, 2009, 12:07 PM
..they are popping out everywhere... why? I'm translating from the admin cp, not a line of code has been touched...:(
September 6th, 2009, 12:50 PM
Are you entering html?
My suggestion is to hit return for line breaks do not enter html like break tags as thats what will display
I am not sure what your second image is suppose to show.
September 6th, 2009, 01:33 PM
second image is showing the BRs again, and the html I found was just there, I only translated around it..
September 6th, 2009, 01:41 PM
Okay and if you replace in your translation the break tag with a line break you know the enter key?
October 1st, 2009, 08:53 PM
Chuck, I've already wrote it in another thread: How do you cope with <i> (italic)? It will always be shown as <i> and not als italic font face?
Means, the html tags will not right taken. Any ideas?
Thanks for your help.

well I think thats just something as simple as in pp-inc.php add a duplicate line like so where noted
$set = un_htmlspecialchars($set);
$set = un_htmlspecialchars($set);
$pp_phrase[$var] = stripslashes($set);
we add one line to convert characters back but you probally need another if your trying to show html.
October 2nd, 2009, 06:06 AM
That's it! Simple duplication of line did it!
Thank you again for your fast help.

Am i stupid or i can't find where to change the global language? The only place i see language, its for "Board Language" and everytime i try to set it to something else, it comes back to english !!
June 9th, 2010, 06:57 AM
In the config settings in admin panel of classifieds. Now of course have you actually created another language because you can not change your language without having installed a new one.
June 9th, 2010, 07:35 AM
How do i install a new one then? I've added a language in add/edit language, thats it
June 9th, 2010, 09:23 AM
Okay well you added the language thats fine. You then go to your config settings type in the name say italian or whatever.
Your classifieds should then look the same as your default added language is going to have strings copied over in english
simply go to admin and use the edit strings functionality to edit the strings to italian. take note do not change any variable names.
June 9th, 2010, 09:37 AM
Well no, thats the thing, everytime i try to change the "english" for my created language, wich is "french", it doesnt change, it stays to english
June 9th, 2010, 09:44 AM
well its going to stay in english until you change your strings. when you create a new language all your doing is cloning the language strings which are english.
Your config says french right?
June 9th, 2010, 09:52 AM
no, it doesnt.
in admin, when i click "Edit Config" and then i set "Board Language" to "french" (wich is my new language name), click "Save Changes".
It goes back and its still "english"
June 9th, 2010, 10:25 AM
well is your config file 666 permissions so you can edit it otherwise you would need to edit the config-inc.php file directly
June 9th, 2010, 10:51 AM
yes it is, config-inc.php is set to 666, even tried to 777
I've changed it directly in the file manually to "french" and it worked.
Thank you for your help
June 9th, 2010, 12:14 PM
No problem enjoy your day
June 9th, 2010, 01:27 PM
Theres lots of problems with é à and è. Accents.
I even put a é somewhere and the whole string dissapeared.
June 9th, 2010, 02:57 PM
well how did you configure your new language utf-8?
Thats what I use as it works for most languages from arabic to russian to most languages?
June 10th, 2010, 10:54 AM
i didnt even know that i could configure utf-8, i tought i was "standard"
June 10th, 2010, 11:19 AM
well our english even uses utf-8
I can enter umlate's without any issues using utf-8
June 25th, 2010, 01:21 PM
i've used utf8 insteand of UTF-8 and it worked
June 25th, 2010, 01:32 PM
Finally used iso-8859-1 and its working #1... i had errors with utf8 as it was not recongnized
June 25th, 2010, 02:27 PM
Is it normal that i can't translate the "What is it you are looking for?:" for the "WANTED" ads? The "search" just can't find it! Thank you
June 25th, 2010, 08:10 PM
Thats because its utf-8 not utf8
Have you checked the actual physical additional language override files under the languages directory?
June 26th, 2010, 11:51 AM
Nope, i need to modify the php file directly?
And like i said, iso-8859-1 worked perfectly
June 26th, 2010, 03:54 PM
I have run classifieds in arabic russian etc with utf-8 and see no issues. french I think should be iso-8859-6 or utf-8
June 26th, 2010, 05:21 PM
Like im saying, utf-8 was not working, iso-8859-1 is perfect
June 27th, 2010, 12:07 PM
well glad it works for you
