Hi,

I was looking for a good product review script for my vbulletin forum and came across Reviewpost. I've seen the demo of the latest 4.1 release and almost ready to buy it. Now only thing left is keyword rich url options.

I need the urls to be neat & duplicate free like the following:

showcat.php?cat=4:
showcat.php?cat=4&page=1:
mysite.com/reviews/4-all-widgets/

showcat.php?cat=4&page=2:
mysite.com/reviews/4-all-widgets-p2/

showproduct.php?product=458&cat=all
showproduct.php?product=458&cat=4
showproduct.php?product=458&sort=7&cat=4&page=1
showproduct.php?product=458&cat=4&date=xxxxxxxxxx
showproduct.php?product=458&cat=4&sl=m&date=xxxxxxxxxx
showproduct.php?product=458&si=xxxxx&date=xxxxxxxxxx
showproduct.php?product=458&cat=4&si=xxxxx&date=xxxxxxxxxx

mysite.com/reviews/4-all-widgets/red-widgets-are-good-458/

Is this possible? I am shocked with the number of duplicate urls in the search for an Item in TechImo. Check this Google Search (http://www.google.com/search?q=marketed+by+Cooler+Master+Y720DCD-25T1-GP+or+DCD-25T1-GP+120mm+blue+LED+fan+kit&filter=0).

This is a great product. I would love to see it to be perfect. :)

Hmm.. I just noticed the test installation at: Main Index - Omegatron.net Reviews (http://www.omegatron.net/reviews/)

Urls looks better here, but includes the showproduct.php & showcat.php + bad keywords like cats, cat, category etc. Duplicates still exists and category names are not consistent. I hope there is away to make the urls like the one I posted above.

lol. :D Found a few threads in vbseo forums, but no solutions yet. A particular user is tired of Adsense ads for cats in the reviewpost pages. :p

The urls are as you see in that test site

keywords descriptions are passed to meta tags

There is no function to have urls like you want. remember the biggest program out there vbulletin does not have this function there urls are like outs. It is an externally sold program vbseo which does that for vbulletin. To date no one has written some plugin for our app like that.

Hi Chuck,

I agree with the point. But all i'm suggesting is just improve the rewrites you've already implemented in Reviewpost.

For example take this url:

http://www.omegatron.net/reviews/showproduct.php/cat/4/item/5_View of the lake and trees

This can easily turn to (using a .htaccess redirect) :

http://www.omegatron.net/reviews/4_Test_Spider_Urls/5_View_of_the_lake_and_trees

which is a near perfect implementation of a professional url rewrite. Look how good is the url now compared to the old one.

Meta tags are important, but more important is a good hierarchical URL structure. Fast and accurate google indexing, better targeted ads, all depend on urls. I am saying this based on my years of experience in running forums & blogs.

May I suggest to run an opinion poll for the customers here and see if they are interested. Just a suggestion, it's all upto you. :)

Btw. You're from Abingdon, Oxford ?

I am from Abingdon Maryland ;)

I am not saying your idea is not good I am merely stating how the program operates since you asked about a feature. Not all servers support htaccess which our product has to support all servers.

I do not own VBSEO so I am not totally sure how they perform there addon functions to vbulletin. I am sure its a mixture of htaccess and code. I was merely pointing out how a default vbulletin code operates. The way our program operates is much the same as the default vbulletin each script has its own set of variables.

Basically that script needs the item variable passed and thats how we get the product id.

This is not to say in the future we may not have this type of feature just that it does not exist now.

Thanks for the update mate.

Looks like I'll wait for a few days and see if their is any alternatives (:p). If not I'll buy RP and get a freelancer to get it done. :(

Hi
I have the same problem with photopost classifieds, how can I fix this to have only one url that work :
showproduct.php/product/458

and the other urls get a 404 error page:

showproduct.php?product=458&cat=all
showproduct.php?product=458&cat=4
showproduct.php?product=458&sort=7&cat=4&page=1
showproduct.php?product=458&cat=4&date=xxxxxxxxxx
showproduct.php?product=458&cat=4&sl=m&date=xxxxxxxxxx
showproduct.php?product=458&si=xxxxx&date=xxxxxxxxxx
showproduct.php?product=458&cat=4&si=xxxxx&date=xxxxxxxxxx

So are you going to fix this?
Vbseo For Photopost? - vBulletin SEO Forums (http://www.vbseo.com/f4/vbseo-photopost-36636/#post238811)

There is nothing for us to fix there. Thats vbSEO thats some program other than ours. We can control how our urls are written etc through out program

A community photo gallery - ReefTalk Gallery (http://www.reeftalk.com/gallery)

You can take a look at the new urls here and we already have the beta open.

By the way thats photopost pro not reviewpost thought this was photopost but anyway same answer really vbseo is not our product.
