View Full Version : Need help getting photos back
November 23rd, 2008, 06:04 PM
Not sure what is going on with my site. Only 6 or 7 of my total membership are able to get into my vbulletin site at the present time. There's some technical error that happened at my webhost's datacenter. Fix for that in progress.
At some point they migrated my server & I had script errors on the main photopost page & the admin panel pages. Tech support has dinked around putting the gallery back to where I can see it but I can't access any photos, all thumbnails are gone, etc. Now, all my member galleries are gone (4319 photos) ... no albums show up, etc.
I need help putting humpty dumpty back together again. The photos still exist but aren't linked anywhere.
Where do I start?
November 23rd, 2008, 07:11 PM
I would need to see a link to this gallery to suggest any resolution.
Do you have site backups of the database?
November 23rd, 2008, 07:22 PM
I have an sql dump ... but they've moved migrated my IP & all the photos are still in the directories. Not sure things will all match up now.
They still haven't resolved the fact that 98% of my members can't get into the site. The trace routes are timing out at their datacenter.
So, I wonder if the photopost just can't find them? right now?
Ohhhhhh, I'm so confused. They've made one huge mess.

No one can get to your site so I do not know what gallery issues you have at present
Once people can get to your site to see it I could actually advise you what you need to fix but once the site is up the thread I linked shows all the steps needed to actually move a photopost site to another server.

Thanks Chuck. I can get in to my site (only a few of us though). It is unlikely that I'll have any more info tonight. Will likely be back tomorrow to check in with you again.
November 24th, 2008, 08:49 AM
have they even redointed your domain name to the new server ip yet? No one can get to you until they do that.
November 24th, 2008, 11:31 AM
Chuck, I finally got word what the problem is. They migrated me to a bad IP address. Now, they're migrating me again. Argh!
So, they told me as of 10am Central time ... 6 to 24 hours. What a mess they've made for me. Not sure why they migrated me the first time either. I'm not moving my site. Until things ran amuck, it was a perfectlly normal day in paradise.
Will be back with you when it is all over. Thanks for looking out for me.
November 24th, 2008, 11:37 AM
yeah that will take a little time to sort
November 25th, 2008, 04:14 PM
OK, Chuck ... I'm back with a fully-migrated IP ... wanna take a look & tell me what's next? As I suspected, the photos didn't magically reappear. The made a mess of things.

Message - My Photo Gallery (http://pets-n-people.net/photopost/index.php)
I would suggest you sign in as admin and check out all the paths etc noted in post 2 with that how to move servers link.
I can not see your gallery but can 100% guarantee your server paths are not correct in Photopost for the new server and you need to change all those in global and storage options.
November 25th, 2008, 06:29 PM
My server hasn't changed. The changed my IP to a bad IP (still have no idea why) and have now changed me to a dedicated IP.
Sorry, I'm confused.
November 25th, 2008, 06:38 PM
well as I stated I can not see your gallery so I can not offer any advise but if your photo links are broken I would easily think your server paths have changed.
November 25th, 2008, 10:51 PM
They all look ok to me ... would be happy to give you access if you're willing to take a look.
November 26th, 2008, 05:05 AM
we would need to see your gallery and settings to comment sure.

I'm trying to work with the guy at my webhost who has been helping me but he won't be in for another 4 hours. Not sure why the script error is showing up on the main page again. What a mess. Thanks ... back to bug you later. Sorry.

The path to the forum is incorrect on the $vbpath line in config-int.php.
As noted your server paths on alot of things are wrong.
November 26th, 2008, 01:34 PM
Hi Chuck, tech support has gotten rid of the script errors. I still have no photos. Will you please take a look? Please advise if you need me to PM you admin access.
November 26th, 2008, 01:48 PM
As I have stated we can not see your gallery it is closed.
November 26th, 2008, 01:50 PM
Oh, sorry ... it's open now.
November 26th, 2008, 02:27 PM
Your photo paths changed you ran scan database and since the path was not correct it deleted all the photo entries.
You need to make sure in the global and storage options in admin the paths are correct and then restore a backup of the photopost pp_photos table.
November 26th, 2008, 02:39 PM
I have a single file backup that includes all my tables. I've never restored a database so, I'm off to investigate that now.
Can I reasonably assume that tech support will know if the global & storage options are accurate? Since they've done all the moving of my site, I'm at a loss as to what has actually happened here.
I don't mean to sound daft here but, from my perspective, all my FTP info is the same. The paths are as they always were (again, from my perspective).
On a side note, the server my site is on is glitchy. The intention is to move my site to a new server. At this point, I've told them to stall that until after this gallery issue is resolved. Right now, I'm afraid to touch anything!
If they can't get this data back in place, or help me do it, is this a service you can provide? (if so, for what fee? and, while I'm preparing my wish list, an update to the latest version of software). I'm not completely against the idea pleading for mercy & throwing my hands up in the air.

Your host should know what the right paths are correct.
You can look at your single backup and find your INSERT statements for pp_photos and use phpmyadmin to load them back in. Your host since they messed things up should be more than willing to assist you.

Thanks, they're working on it!
November 26th, 2008, 03:07 PM
Thanks for all your help, Chuck. I've sent them the latest backup file. Linked them to this thread. Fingers crossed.
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope this is the last time I have to bug you with this issue. Enjoy a nice holiday!
November 26th, 2008, 04:05 PM
You have a nice one as well. All they need to restore are the inserts for you photos table in the photopost database,
November 29th, 2008, 03:53 PM
Update — they've restored the photos but are still working on a script error. I've tried to upload some more photos & get the script error they're referring to. Not fixed, but there has been progress. Thanks!
November 29th, 2008, 04:15 PM
well what script error are we talking about.
November 29th, 2008, 07:08 PM
OK, I try to upload 3 photos & it acts like it is going to work. Then, the list of 3 photos comes up (where you can add categories, fill in descriptions, etc) and when I click "Process", I get this error:
Warning: getimagesize(/var/hsphere/local/home/jkatz/pets-n-people.net/photopost/data/500/DSCF2015-1.jpg) [function.getimagesize]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /hsphere/local/home/jkatz/pets-n-people.net/photopost/image-inc.php on line 251

Please change your data and server paths as I have noted a few times in this thread to the correct server path to the new server and set permissions and you should be fine.
Your error above shows you the path is not correct.
November 30th, 2008, 09:17 AM
I've linked tech support to this thread from the start & have reminded them to check here. I haven't changed a thing & all modifications up till this point have been made by them.
This is my latest communication from them:
Just want to reminds you that we still working on your web page error, we still looking where this configuration file or dbase record located that use the path as /var/hsphere/local/home/jkatz/pets-n-people.net/photopost/data/. We already searched through your application admin panel and they already use the correct one (/hsphere/local/home/jkatz/pets-n-people.net/photopost/data/, with /var prefix), but somehow the error still saying the wrong path, that's the problem that we still trying to fix.
I'll put this ticket status as "Awaiting Info" so we can easily alerted with your ticket pending status. We will get back to you once we've fixed the problem.
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have more question.
November 30th, 2008, 11:07 AM
Your data and uploads paths as noted by the thread for global and storage options need to be prefixed by this server path.
You have like /var on the front which is wrong.
November 30th, 2008, 11:23 AM
THANK YOU, CHUCK! It would appear they've got the paths right this time. I haven't done a lot of scruitinization of the gallery but I was able to upload new photos & didn't get the script error. Just a bit of jumping around & all looks well.
I appreciate your help. Whew, I'm glad that's over (bet you are too!).
