View Full Version : How to add an inline video?
July 15th, 2008, 01:10 PM
I would like for every product in the catalog to have an inline video as well as a picture of the product. It doesn't matter where it is, but a good place would be on the left oft he screen, since the picture is on the right of the screen.
I would like for the video to automatically start playing, when the user arrives at that product's page. If there is no video available for that product, I would like for an image to take its place, that says, "Video coming soon."
What would I have to do set this up?

There is no multimedia portion to this product so this is not something you can do without in some way altering your code in some fashion.

Can you add flash code to the head so the review will be able to run flash videos in the reviews?

I guess that would all depend on what you do or enter.

OK, I'll play with the headtags file and see what I can get it to do, if anything.

Well crap, if I try to insert <object> or <embed> code into my review and save it, it strips all the code out upon saving. Is there a way around this?
Videos are extremely important in product reviews. vBulletin allows youtube, flash, etc videos in threads. Why won't this function work in ReviewPost or be added as a function of reviewpost?

we strip out harmful html period. we allow normal html but not exploitable html. You can add the tags you want to add in this function in pp-inc.php near the top
$string = str_replace(array('<', '>', '"', '&'), array('<', '>', '"', '&'), $string);
$string = strip_tags($string, "<b><table><tr><td><strong><i><em><u><a><div><span><p><blockquote><ol><ul><li><font><img><br><h1><h2><h3><h4><h5><h6>");

You can try it that is adding those tag commands if your trying to embed something into the description.

I am attempting to embed something in the description. So add object and embed into strip_tags? Seems like you would NOT want those stripped.

Thats not how it works
PHP: strip_tags - Manual (http://us2.php.net/strip-tags)
The html tags listed in that line are the ones allowed. ;) Everything else is not.

Ok that worked, now a follow up question.... Once the video is embedded can I then change the pp-inc back to stock so I don't get any users submitting nasty stuff?

No you can not. That is a global function in pp-inc.php and is used to convert things for display. Thats why we do not allow object or embed tags to begin with. Same for iframe because you can include stuff into a page. We just allow the normal html display tags.
