View Full Version : Copied data base install problem
December 23rd, 2007, 11:52 AM
When I was setting up a new vbulletin site, I copied the entire vbulletin database from an old site to a newer site, since the new site is actually a superset of the old site. That allowed me to import the user base as well as all the pertinent threads. Just a fyi, both old and new vbulletin systems will be running concurrently, so it's not like I am killing one for the other.
I am using version 5.3 of PhotoPost on the old site, and recently purchased the latest version (6.01) of PhotoPost for the new site and installed it this morning. After finally wrangling through all the folder permission problems, I finally got to the admin page and was surprised to see messages that were obviously related to the old site. When I tried to actually view the photo gallery on the new system, it crashed and burned on me.
What's the easiest way out of this dilemma? Can I just copy the DATA folder from the old system to the new one? Or is there a way to just tell the new system to dump the old stuff and start from scratch?
Utilizing the photos from the older site would probably be the best option, since it would populate the photo gallery on the new one, but I would rather get some input first before making things worse....

What you need to do is upgrade the photopost tables to the new version but you might want to read this thread on how to move a photopost site this should assist you with any issues unrelated to upgraded the actual database which is handled by upgrade script.

Thanks for addressing this. But I don't think that copied link will help. The photopost tables are in the vbulletin database that got copied over to my new site. How would upgrading the Photopost software on my old system help in that respect? Does that change the structure of the DATA folder? At this point the 5.3 table structure is on the new system, and the 6.01 program code is installed there as well.
I did the full install on the new site, since an upgrade wouldn't have been appropriate since none of the older photopost files had been copied over.
When I was doing the database copy, I didn't even think about the PhotoPost table(s) being in the database already. I'm sure you know how it is setting up a new site. WAY too many things on your mind............
So, what is best to do at this time that would be the least amount of work but accomplish the best result?

I think you are misunderstanding something on this process as that thread clearly outlines every step. If you are cloning a database or install on the new site you must properly update all permissions and paths urls in files and the settings table to reflect the new paths and urls etc and upgrade those tables with the upgrade script and your photopost should work. Your not touching an old photopost at all in any manner thats on some other server and some other database right. Your trying to clone your forum and gallery on a new server so you need to install correctly on the new server and upgrade those older tables since your running 6.01 not 5.3. If your not trying to copy the old photopost to the new site then simply do a new install for photopost and integrate it with the new vb. Merry Christmas buddy.

Yeah, wouldn't be the first time I was on a different wavelength than the person I was talking to.... :)
Here's what I did:
Installed new vBulletin license on a new site.
Copied vBulletin database from old system that had PhotoPost 5.3 tables installed on it to the new site. I did NOT copy the PhotoPost program folder to the new site.
Purchased a PhotoPost 6.01 license for the new site and installed that this morning onto the new site as a NEW install.
At this point, should I instead run the 6.01 UPGRADE script on the new site even though a new 6.01 install was done there previously? Will this update the PP tables on the vBulletin database or did the new install corrupt them? And then copy the DATA folder from the old site to the new one?
The config files on the new site have been modified to work correctly. At least it appears to be the case.
Yes, I read over that other thread, twice, but it appears to be related to copying a standalone copy of PhotoPost from one server to another. It doesn't appear to cover the mistakes I made in this process. Re-copying the vBulletin database from the other site to the new is no longer an option.
At this point, I guess the main question is: Can I just copy the DATA file from the old site to the new, run the UPDATE routine for the 6.01 license I have and is now installed on the new site, and be up and running?
Sorry if I am not picking this up as quickly as you would like. This is all old hat to you, but I don't play with this kind of stuff every day.
ps, Merry Christmas to you as well, Chuck. Thanks for helping us out with this stuff.

Merry Christmas to you! Yeah totally not clear before what you where trying to do. Clone your old photopost and forum or just the forum and do a new gallery ;)
In my last post if you mistakenly copied photopost tables to a new site where you dont want to then simply delete the tables in that new database that are not vb tables and do a complete new install of Photopost. Here are the install instructions. All you need to do is a fresh install I think your trying to do a new install without first removing the old photopost database tables.
