View Full Version : Thinking to buy 2nd photopost license but how do I make them use the same member DB?
October 25th, 2007, 11:54 AM
I want to run a 2nd photopost pro on a domatin2 but I still want it to get the member data from photopost pro + VB from domain 1. The album and photos use different data tho. Only needs them to share the same user database so members won't have to regsiter again.
Is this possible?

You can install different photopost installs to integrate with one vbulletin just install them in separate databases or if the same database make sure to use a different table prefix for the second install.
October 25th, 2007, 12:17 PM
even when they both on different domain and server?
October 25th, 2007, 12:20 PM
well your english is not too clear here but it is as I say. You can install 2 different photoposts to integrate with a vb just use different table prefix.
Now if photopost is on a different server that vb you are not able to integrate with it anything other than user login if the vb server allows external mysql connections.
All depends on your setup really. My points are simply the do not do's
October 25th, 2007, 12:26 PM
So it's possible but not recommanded? because I am thinking to run different gallery on different domain with different contents but all using 1 member database.
October 25th, 2007, 12:35 PM
well if you external forum server allows external mysql connections you ran integrate a photopost with those user logins but you can not use all the header footer style integrations as they require the forum to be on the same server as photopost.
October 25th, 2007, 12:37 PM
Oh if it's just that then no worries we can design another style for it. As long as the user database is the same so members won't have to register again.
And the photos are stored in different server/location/ database perfix.

So i will talk to my coders as soon as i comfirm with them I will buy another photopost pro license. :) Thanks for the quick reply again chuck
forgot something important. can different gallery have different user group permissions? or it must be the same.
October 25th, 2007, 01:06 PM
you can assign permissionns per usergroup per category.

I need 2 photopost lincense to run it on 2 domains right?
In my emember's area I couldn't find the option allow me to buy another license. How do I add another license to my current member account?
October 26th, 2007, 09:24 AM
You purchase another license from our online store here.
October 26th, 2007, 09:30 AM
Just did. :) Waiting for the member area update now. chuck pls add the search by resolution in the search funtion. It's a very good feature. :P
October 26th, 2007, 09:33 AM
search by resolution sorry you lost me there
October 26th, 2007, 09:49 AM
For example I am trying to search for 1600x1000+ resolution wallpapers only in the gallery. But I can't. I had to use google to search my own gallery for 1600x+ wallapapers. And that is not good. know what i mean now? I think this is very important search function taht photopost is missing.

your free to post any thoughts and suggestions in the suggestions forum for the developer to see.

I did http://www.photopost.com/forum/showthread.php?t=133911
Just wondering if there is any plan adding this search function soon. If not I might just hire a coder to do it. :(
October 26th, 2007, 06:14 PM
chuck could you contact me on and give me the info on how much you charge to finish this work? on installing new gallery but using same member database. need asap pls.
October 26th, 2007, 06:53 PM
If you need to purchase an install for photopost to be installed you can do so by hitting the purchase link in the header above and purchase the install.
October 27th, 2007, 05:54 AM
Does the install include link it to another gallery and move some category of the current database to the new one?
Also I still haven't recieve the license details yet.
October 27th, 2007, 10:41 AM
what do you mean by link it?
You can create whatever categories you wish in Admin => Edit Categories. Categories can not be imported as you need to create it through admin so the corresponding data directories are created.
An install is simply going to properly install the gallery on your server in working order.
October 27th, 2007, 05:29 PM
I need a cutsom install not just install it.
1. It need to use the same user database as gallery 1.
2. move half of the albums from gallery 1 into gallery 2.
October 27th, 2007, 06:32 PM
1. thats still a normal install not a custom install.
2. Not really something you can do unless you want to spend time creating categories with the same name and category id after its installed and transfer specific queries between databases and copy those files to the other gallery data directory. That would be up to you to do.

I see. I guess I have to do it by hand 1 by 1. XD Also I orderd this on Date Fri Oct 26 07:27:40 PDT 2007 almsot 2 days I still haven't recieve my order details. :(
October 28th, 2007, 10:50 AM
When you purchase an installation customer service will send you an install doc. Nothing will be done till this has been returned to them. If you have any questions about an order you may email firstname.lastname@example.org.
October 28th, 2007, 05:36 PM
I just sent them an email I ordred photopost lincese 3 days ago not sure why I still haven't receive the details.
Oh also How do I make a thumb block like the one you have in forum home bottom?
October 28th, 2007, 05:54 PM
This thread should assist you.
October 29th, 2007, 08:35 AM
Thanks i saw that thread before but didn't know it works for 3.6.8 too. I suggest you rename the thread so people know it will work with 3.6.8.
Also I get this when i try to upload more photos to the gallery.
You have exceeded your upload limit of 10 images per day. how do i disable this limit?
October 29th, 2007, 09:47 AM
You would disable your upload limit per day by setting in Admin => Edit Usergroups removing the restriction you have set for that options. Set it back to 0 for unlimited and you will be good to go.
Let me know if there is anything else we may assist with.

thanks chuck you r the best support i've seen. :) I looked in there before i ask but i guess i missed it. Thanks chuck.
October 29th, 2007, 05:19 PM
quite welcome buddy.
October 30th, 2007, 02:52 AM
another question. Is there any script that can run hash check on all the photos in the gallery and delete the duplicate ones? Is not yet how much will it cost to ask someone to write one? Is it possible? I know it will take up alot system resources. But I can probly close down the gallery once a month to run the hash check. Because I have got a pretty big gallery and it's almost impossible to check for duplicated pictures by hand.
October 30th, 2007, 11:03 AM
check duplicates? there is already a tool in scan database to check filenames against the next or prev photo to ensure possibly users by mistake upload a file twice but thats not what you want. You want something that is without any problems going to compare the actual photo pixels and determine if they are identical based on their content not filename right? Well to be honest i do not know of any server software that has this ability. I do know its available as a desktop solution in the form of graphics programs.
October 30th, 2007, 11:33 AM
What's the program called? Also think it's possible to make something like that to run on the server? specially for photopost. checking same file names is not that effective. Sometimes 2 diffrent pictures can have the same filename too. actully they do happen alot in anime gallery.
October 30th, 2007, 12:03 PM
I dont know honestly. I am merely saying I know there are high end expensive true image compare programs out there for the desktop. I am not a graphics guy here ;)
