I've been testing PhotoPost PRO and it's full of bugs and not well developped.

Bugs found so far:

The installer is verry unclear and unsafe, it will return fatal errors if you forget to do something what isn't stated in the instalation script
vBulletin Wysiwyg editor doesn't work and returns a Javascript error
some included images in the download package are malformed, for example the upload indicator (/images/indicator.gif)

Further, it's not "well" developped or complete.

The users are not linked to their forum profile, for some users who posted a photo there is a link to statistics
The description of the photo does not have a Wysiwyg editor
It doesn't seem possible to configure the quality of the full (but resized) image, just for thumbnails AND resized images together

I will update this post with other bugs etc. I find, as I will be completely redevelopping a gallery script based on PhotoPost PRO.

Hi!

You should first check if the url wich fails to open really exists, if not try to get the file to that location or if the file is located on a difrent location on the server, try to find a setting wich specifies the location of the file.

Is there no documentation at all btw?

If you buy PhotoPost PRO it starts of with this as the ONLY instalation instructions:

This is a list of files needed by PhotoPost for normal operation:

data/*
forums/*
help/*
images/*
languages/*
stylesheets/*
templates/*
uploads/*

adm-cats.php
adm-inc.php
adm-index.php
adm-misc.php
adm-photo.php
adm-users.php
bulkupload.php
comments.php
config-inc.php
config-int.php
ecard.php
editphoto.php
header-inc.php
image-inc.php
inc_features.php
inc_photopost.php
index.php
member.php
misc.php
pclzip.inc.php
pp-inc.php
register.php
search.php
showfull.php
showgallery.php
showmembers.php
showphoto.php
slideshow.php
uploadphoto.php
useralbums.php
watermark.php

The following files are only needed during the install or upgrade process and should be removed when you have finished:

CHANGELOG.TXT
install.php

UPGRADE.TXT
upgrade.php

and, of course, this file filelist.txt and CHANGELOG.TXT files do not need to be uploaded.

I get the feeling you have no clue whatsoever what your talking about really :)

I had it installed by the support people here and it started to act up once they installed classifieds for me. I don't know what the deal is, but I haven't heard from them in a Day now.

You can find documentation here (http://www.photopost.com/manual/index.html).

I can't tell if you are looking for help or just here to complain; I believe your issues have more to do with your disposition and a misunderstanding of how to implement the integration than actual issues with our scripts.

Keep in mind, it is Sunday; support is less intensive over weekends and holidays (we all have families, you know).

There maybe some things that could be made better in photopost and there are certainly some features and customizations that are not included, but as whole photopost is a pretty dam good script.

Hi!

The problem is: it's not developed for vBulletin wich makes it slow and ineffective and missing a lot of cool features available in vBulletin today.

Best Regards,

Sorry, Jan, but I disagree with that statement; PhotoPost works quite well with vBulletin:

I also found the link to the photo gallery statistics to be of no use. I edited a template for showmembers to make it link straight to their gallery. The quality control on full photos would be nice also. I agree it's not as polished as it could be but it's worked well for me so far.

Wow ... I've never had a problem with photopost on my Vbulletin and it's always done exactly what it's advertised and more :D

Just seems to me some people can't be happy unless they just do it themselves.

The "problem" with his setup was an incorrect cookie prefix (he was using a custom prefix and hadn't set it). Once we determined that was the problem, everything else fell into place.

The "profile" area is getting a makeover, but we want to link to a gallery profile first and from there they can link to the forum profile.

That's kind of cool. Will it be included in the next release?

Also . . . does it grab the 'occupation,' 'location,' and those types of fields from vBulletin? That would be ideal. Don't think many of my members would want to make a seperate profile for the photo gallery. Including their signature would be nice in that profile page.

IMHO, VB Gallery has the best integration with VB.

As a non-customer (meaning me) how can you tell? There doesn't seem to be a admincp demo and the comparison chart sounds doesn't mention this as an advantage at all.

Yes, it's in an update that will be out shortly.

No, it does not grab variables from the forum side since those are not necessarily static. The gallery profile is separate and allows for BB Codes to be used to allow for greater flexibility in customizing that area.

VB gallery acts like a vb plugin as it is tightly coupled to VB. As a result, it looks and feels like an extension to your board. On the other hand, photopost pro is a standalone product that has an interface with VB, thus not offering the tight coupling.

Thanks! Integration is imporant in my mind.

With either of these products can users access their gallery images while using the message editor? For easy insertion into posts?

PhotoPost PRO has a modification to click for a pop-up to give users a scrollable display of thumbnails that can be clicked and inserted into the image.

(Note: This mod may not work with 3.6 as yet; but will be updated soon.)
