View Full Version : 2.1 upgrade anomalies
October 28th, 2006, 12:47 PM
When running vbgallery_install.php I got a page time-out. If I rerun it, I get a message that I have already updated.
The gallery "appears" to be working.
I get "Could not find phrase 'upgrade_ppgal21'." on my admin control panel.
EDIT: NOTE: MAKE A DATABASE BACKUP BEFORE YOU UPGRADE!

It appears that I have a major screw-up. The install script definitely did not complete. Where do I go from here?

Do you know how to get around in your database ? (phpmyadmin)
- if so please take a look @ the user table for 2 fields:
- if so the time out may be from processing the image and post count.
There is a new tool in the AdminCP => vBgallery => Maintenance menu:
"Update User Counts"
This tool will allow you to update user image and post count.
"Could not find phrase 'upgrade_ppgal21'."
You may need to re-import the product of the gallery to update phrases/templates/plugins it is the last step after image and post count.

Dropping back over here to give you an update.
#1.) TURN OFF YOUR FORUM AND YOUR GALLERY BEFORE UPGRADING!
I had turned off the gallery, but I did not turn off the forum before taking the backup. When you restore a backup, it comes back in the way you left it, in my case, ON. Now you've got a few hundred users hammering your site while you are trying to fix it.
#2) MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE UPGRADING!
(Actually, this is #1, but read above.
mysqldump --opt mydata_vbul > bkup102806before.sql
Then, if you have a fowl-up, you can restore your data:
mysql -uroot -mypassword mydata_vbul < bkup102806before.sql
THANK GOD FOR BACKUPS!
Anyway, I am on my way to recovery. For whatever reason, my styles got screwed up, so the answer to that was to REBUILD STYLES in Admin Update Counters.
Then, I ran vbgallery_install.php again and it did in fact run to completion. Apparently, when I ran it the first time, there was an internet hiccup.
It might be good to split the install script up into sections like vBulletin does so as to know where the stuff hit the fan.
Anyway, THANKS for being here. It helps to talk when you're in trouble.

Great Feedback :)
I'll have further updates disable forums and gallery - update - then enable.
The install script does pause on install. This last upgrade was very large. I'll work in some steps on further updates

Great job Zachariah! My problem had to be an internet fluke (page time-out) that can "get" any one of us at any time.
All is well! Now to turn on the memberinfo display and the forumhome display.
EDIT: MEMBERINFO and FORUMHOME work great!

How does one edit the Exclude Categories and the Limit Categories in the Modify Add-Ons section?
I must be missing something on how to do this.
October 28th, 2006, 06:10 PM
Well by default images will be taken from all Categories.
- If you exclude a category it will not show up.
- If you limit the categories it will only show images from selected choices.
You should be able to select w/ your mouse what you wish to show.
- hold CTRL key and tag names (one by one)
- hold SHIFT key and tag multi names.

Got it! I was a bit dense on that one. In other words, light 'em up and SAVE the page. (I was trying to remove them from the "edit" window.)

I've got the same error over here, in the top of the admincp there is the message "Could not find phrase 'upgrade_ppgal21' "
What happen before.
Earlier this week i did a complete update to mysql server 4.1 to a total UTF-8 charset, so everything in mysql is UTF-8 now. I had of course to change vbulletin as well, this was a easy thing to do. After this i still had problems with vbgallery so i decide to upgrade from 2.0 to 2.1 at the same time. Uploading the files to the server went ok , but running the upgrade.php files is giving me a couple of login screens in the admincp and then i get this message :
"No file uploaded and no local file found" what can i do to resolve this and upgrade to vbgallery 2.1 ? Hope somebody can help me with this. :)
