View Full Version : Upgrade to 5.3.1 broke member gallery sort
June 11th, 2006, 12:17 AM
I upgraded to 5.3.1 first by replacing only the specified files and noticed that the image sort is broken in member galleries. In case I missed something, I then uploaded all the files except the configuration and install.php and upgrade.php and the problem still remains. No files failed to upload/overwrite. (I went over my gftp log for the session)
It doesn't matter what is chosen in the drop list to sort images in member galleries, when you click the Sort Now button, no images are shown and it just says "This category does not contain any images."
This was certainly working tonight before the upgrade, because we were using it.
Photopost is installed as a standalone... it is not integrated with any forum.

I am having the same problem, also with a stand alone PP installation.

You would have to show and post an example here so I can assist. I see no issues with members galleries and PP 5.31

Chuck, have a look here
click on a member's gallery and then try sorting on another field
PS I get the same behaviour with your example above

Yes, that's broken in both of those photopost installations too. It's not a problem sorting the member galleries themselves, it's when you go into someone's member gallery and, for example, change to sort by date posted, and descending order and click "Sort Now".
This is occuring in my (sister's) gallery, Chuck's gallery, and pistebasher's gallery.
It occurs regardless of browser too... I've tried it in Firefox in different OSes and IE.
My sister's gallery is private, so I won't post it here but if you want it I'll send the URL privately. It seems to be reproducable enough though.
Thanks for looking into this... I can't write the stuff, but I have no problems editing code if someone gives me excerpts to replace. So if you want me to test anything let me know.

Same here. Same thing on today's uploads also: This category does not contain any images.

Try changing these lines in showgallery.php
This is just a patch till I do some more testing and find out why the line as it is written is not working
// Sort timeframe (takes priority over recent selection if selected)
if ( !empty($sorttime) )
$sortcheck = time() - (($sorttime * 24) * 3600);
$datecheck = "AND date > $sortcheck";

That appears to have done the trick, Chuck. The member gallery sort droplists are working now.
Thanks, I'll watch for further developments.

Thanks Chuck, working for me now as well.

The results for "Recent Photos 1 day 7 days 14 days" result in the same "This category does not contain any images."

I've updated the showgallery.php and showphoto.php scripts in the build to make the change above in the three or four places that it needs to be made; I can't explain why breaking the same code into two lines works, but it needed to be done in a couple of places.
You can grab those two files from the current download to fix the links.

I've since gone back to version 5.3 because of the additional problems with the navigation links (which you've probably just fixed also) and I'm just going to stay with that version now. We are quite happy with it and virtually all of our annoyances in past versions have been corrected.
I'm sorry that I just don't have the time to be discovering and chasing problems which was why I chose to pay for Photopost in the first place. My non-geek sister (the actual user of this) is not sympathetic to debugging :-)

FYI I had also noticed when we did the 5.3 upgrade , (alas only a couple weeks ago) that our members showgallery sort changed from default descending (latest pic) to ascending (first upload)
We had to reset all our cat sorts - fortunately we have parent categories and were able reset to all child cats and have it working correctly.
We will await a couple other current troubleshooting issues before attemting the rebuild.

I'm not aware of any sorting changes; thats odd.

Yeah, to be honest I thought that this might have had something to do with our removing of all sorts options - except for latest upload ascending/descending, with default DESC ... but that was several years ago, and we haven't done any changes in PHPMyAdmin.
(To keep our sort options simple, if I remember correctly, we had removed:
last activity - comments (we don't use this feature)
most popular (views)
least popular (views)
So when we upgraded to 5.3, latest /descending (latest upload first)worked correctly in categories, but in Members Gallery > showgallery it was ascending (first upload up top).
Well, we put them all back in to try and get MG back to Descending and it found the default category showgallery sort was then affected.
So we left only the latest desc in Category Edit but it didn't change the cat sort to descending until we clicked on latest sort option > submit.
Now we have it working fine.
Not knowing if this was a cache/refresh issue, or something of our own doing, and having now corrected the problem in MG and cat view, I had no real need to address this issue and waste your time till I noticed someone else had a MG sort issue.

Interesting; I wonder if it has to do with how we set the default sort order or something. Anyways, sounds like it's all worked out. Good to hear.

Yes, this is working fine now.
If anyone else has this problem I'd suggest going to
Admin > Edit Categories > Member Gallery > Edit > Default Sort Order > Check that this is the sort order that you want.
Because I had removed some sort orders a while back, it took me a little more jiggling to get it back into order in PHP MyAdmin.
In my situation because I am not using the Comments /Posting feature my top default sort order is not by last activity but latest upload.

Thanks for putting up the fixed files Michael. It's all sorted out now.
