View Full Version : Displaying custom fields
February 18th, 2006, 05:30 AM
I've built a custom field 'selection' checkbox for a 'Pick of the Week' feature that we can use to select 40/50 images that viewers can see grouped together on one page. However, I can't seem to display the page that just shows the images that have their checkbox ticked.
I've tried something like this:
but it didn't work.
Here's the properties for the edit link of the custom field in the forums admincp:
Field required: no
Field searchable: yes

Stuart, I tried a few quick experiments and, much to my surprise, was having some problems getting it to work because for one reason or another I kept getting a blank value for cfields even though it is definitely being passed in on the URL string.
One thing is that instead of "field8" you'll want just "8" for the Gallery tables.
In your testing, what exactly did your URL look like? Hopefully in my testing I just looked over something obvious and seeing your URL will shed some light on it.

The custom field is:
selection Checkbox (Multiple options, multiple choices)
and the edit link shows the properties:
I've tried the URL as 8, rather than field8
but still getting the same error "You must choose some fields to search in!"

but still getting the same error "You must choose some fields to search in!"Yeah, that's what I was getting as well. The function is expecting an array to be passed into it for the 'cfields' and 'fields' values but several experiments later I kept getting blank on it. My next experiment will be to simply add a new query value and do a clean_gpc on it as a string instead of an array to at least see if the search from the url method will work and, if it does, then go back and see how/why it's having issues with using cfields.

The search page works as it is coded though. Everyone here is discussing how to bypass the search page basically and do something it is not designed to do
The search page is POST form not GET.
The variables everyone is talking here are done via the POST and not a GET which is why it does not work like your trying to do it
Sometimes the answers are easy ;)
