View Full Version : bad news for my classifieds

Personally I liked the classifieds and thought it was a step up from my previous system of just using the forums for ads posts, but my membership is now demanding we scrap the classifieds and go back to using the forums. They say it is totally confusing to them and want the old system back. Some of the gripes were that new classifieds and comments do not show as 'new posts', that the layout of the ads is odd, etc. This is a bummer because I liked the new system, ugh.. That's end users for you. If I had to suggest anything it would be a much tighter integration to the forums so people can see ads and comments as new postings. I guess I will try to pay a coder to do this but figure it will only work for new ad postings and not comments..

The reality is (for vB 3.5 users) a plug in would work remarkably better than this installation. Please dont take offence as I realise a LOT of work goes into the writing and support of this installation, but the classifieds is very inflexible and doesnt integrate well.
I guess you guys will be working on things anyway.....but just adding my 2c.

This is just me, but why should classified comments count as 'new posts'? Are your users so hungry to boost their post-count that this is their main gripe?
I do agree that there should be a module for including recent ads on the vbPortal home page... I'm currently looking into a way to hack some of the code that shows the recent ads on the classifieds page to integrate it into the vbPortal page.
I actually think that PP classifieds integrates pretty well... I had it up and running in about 20 minutes... of course this doesn't include configuration time.
