Luciano suggested not using personal albums. To me that is not using the gallery, because my community is more facebook-like freestyle social network for enthusiasts, not for professionals. Plain catalogues of fixed type shots won't do. What I need is
vB standard albums plus categories (which hold many many albums and need pagination obviously) plus some extended option for photos like rating etc.
OK, I see that I need to think of a workaround.

The script shows the name of the user, so it can get the user's avatar too, I believe
I am ready to pay for the hack, of course
