The product can show recent or random images on the forumhome there is a plugin for that.
However the forum and gallery are two separate products. I think you will find this with all products.
You can use this site as an example you see the forums and you see the photo block now click a photo or click the gallery link in the navbar you will go to the gallery it is a separate part of the site.
