Well for the backup option to attempt to work you need to make sure you have the proper path to mysql dump in global options as well as the full proper path to a backups directory which is 777. Even then it may or may not work on some hosts.
Now as far as your last error on the last step of install you have entered the incorrect server path to vbulletin where asked. Go ahead and edit your config-int.php file and change the $vbpath line to the correct path
