There are a few things to look at.

Make sure the "files" directory and sub-directories are CHMOD 777.
Take a look at your server settings and if it uses GD or Imagemagik. (adjust gallery settings as needed)
Do you know if the new server vs. the old uses PHP in safe mode ?
Try to rebuild thumbnails. log into - admincp/gallery/maintenance
