We've recently upgraded to 5.3 so this could be a bug or a configuration problem. Has anyone else run into this?

We have a rogues-gallery category which only admins and moderators can examine. If anyone sees a photo which is borderline by our standards, they move the pic there and other mods get chance to give a second opinion. This method worked well with our old gallery.

Today a photo was moved there, but the thumbnails were still visible by users who can't access the private area. At the same time, the pic in the Rogue's area was marked as having no thumbnails. An ordinary user clicking on the thumbnail was told they had no access to the main pic, but they shouldn't have been able to see any sign of it! Thumbnails were eventually generated in the new gallery. The main pic was deleted and the thumbnails went too, but I don't know when that happened.

Any idea what caused this? is it a bug or a config problem, or a 'feature' ?
