The number of thumbnails is always a multiple of how many columns you have. We go as high as 6x the columns so in a 4 column that would be 24. If you want to keep the 4 columns you can edit your cathead.tmpl and add in more perpage options. Just make sure they are multiples of 6 say like this add in bold
