What steps exactly did you use to update vBulletin? vBGallery, as you know, stores it's tables in the same DB as vB so if you copied your entire DB over to a second copy and then upgraded the copy of the DB to the newest version of vB then your vBG settings would have come along also (you would've just need to upgrade vBG if going from vB 3.0 to vB 3.5 or, at the most, re-install the templates if going from vB 3.5.x to vB 3.5.x).
