PhotoPost Community - View Single Post - Display new comments/photos indicator on index?

So I had this question for a while now...so in the admin panel "index options" you have a setting for "Display new comments/photos indicator on index?" Switching this on and off, I have never seen anything change. What is that option for and what should it do?
