Sorry to not update here. I got my problem fixed late last night. My problem was that when I went to any of the menu options in the Admin Gallery area, all it gave me was this ominous "Error" message. No codes, no nothing. I found my problem was when I uploaded the files, my ftp client wasn't overwriting the old files with the new. (doh) A quick adjustment in my ftp client, re-uploading of the files, and bingo... a nicely updated Gallery to RC4.
