The "URL" would be typically something like
http://www.mysite.com/gallery, assuming, of course, that the gallery was installed in the root directory of the site.
During the installation it does not automatically create any links on your forums; it's up to the individual person to decide how & where they want to link to it.
You didn't miss anything..... Just have to get familiar with new toys.
