It was just a shot.
My hosting company handles their sub-domains through entries in a index.cgi file; when I recently added a second domain that points to the first one the index.cgi files were completely screwing me up in that unless I specified the complete path to the file (eg: {root}/gallery/index.php instead of just {root}/gallery) it would give me a 404 error.
