Question How do I remove the borders around featured images?

The default border for featured images that appear on the VB3 forum home page is overlay-round.gif (and overlay-roundp.gif). This displays that shadowed rounded border around the featured images, similar to the featured images on this site.

My question is, how do I remove it. I don't want that background because I increased the thumbnail size settings and in doing so, the pixels of the rounded border become more visable.

I should mention that I tried removing the corresponding src attribute in the inc-featured.php file, but doing that removes the image entirely. I then tried to make the src attribute value blank which works fine in a Safari browser, but for IE, a .bmp-type icon is displayed in the upper left corner of the thumbnail.

Should I create a clear image (i.e., clear.gif) and use that in place of the overlay-round.gif file? Come to think of it, doing that would've taken less time than it took me to create this post, but any input is appreciated.
