FYI, on the PP5 update we're moving the menus around to make them easier to use, we've removed some of the graphics and ar using text and we're trying to make the templates more "fixed column friendly".

While our layouts may work for 98% of our users, its maintaining that usability while accomidating the other 2% which makes alot of work.

As for templates, overall our user base is not very technical. Implementing a new template system that uses its own language would in itself be very cumbersome to many of our users. While HTML/PHP may not be the language of choice for some, it is one that is widely used/known and has plenty of reference resources available and doesn't make our users dependent on us to document/teach them. Also, this layout allows for greater flexibility for customization.
