I use my website for my own photography and that of my friends. My photography is more towards fine art and I like to keep the photos large to show the detail. However that doesn't work well for the others who just want galleries that they can browse through. I was wondering if would be possible to add an option for more than one size, small -medium - large - full size. Also, you could add a cookie preference for the user for them to choose (based mostly on their display size and connection speed) which sizes will display by default to them. One person wanting to click on small thumbnails and get medium images, while another clicks on large thumbnails to get full resolution images (1200px). I realize that this would increase the disk space requirements but it would be worth it.
