Sorry for the duplication. I'll stick with this thread since I can't imagine I'm the first to encounter this.
Tech support responded, check proper localhost. But host,user,pass seems to be right, cause any deviation leads to an "or die" error.
I managed to have install.php report the mysql error at
line 315 as error:1044. That seems to be related to root access. I tried
adding my IP to access hosts with no luck. I'm trying to get photopost
running on a remotely hosted server using their frontend managers and
phpMyAdmin. Do I need to have root access to install photopost??? Please
tell me I didn't waste $130.
