What do you mean no thumb available? You have one picture uploaded to your install under the friends cat and its a guy standing with a bike. I am unregistered and I can surely see the thumb on the recent images bar
As far as thumbnails for a category you need to mark an image as a cat thumb when viewing the image from showphoto logged in as admin
