figured out the problem with the above 2 posts by me ...

to do the upgrade i stuck the 4.8c files into a temp dir called /www/temp
the older version 4.7j was in /www/photopost

then i simply did some "mv <whatever ... dir or file.*>" to update to the newer release

ultimately while checking timestamps i learned that many of the php files in my main /www/photopost dir were still 4.7j ... -embarrassment-

repeated the move ... this time blowing away the 4.7j files and boom ... works (for the most part)!!
